Hello Friends, today we are talking about a measure taken by the government in the last week of last month i.e. in the last week of July. Yes as you have read the title, this post is about the new education policy in India and I shall be sharing new education policy 2020 highlights.  
After a long span of 34 years, there are major and biggest changes which take place in the education sector.


Process of Changes in Education Policy:-

This all doesn't happen suddenly. This was a long process of bringing the new education policy in India.
The manifesto of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) of 2014 Elections, contains implementation in the Education Policy. 
After winning the elections, the first committee was made in 2015 headed by TR Subramanyam to give recommendations on new education policy with 5 members, but their recommendations were not accepted fully.
In 2016, another committee under Dr K Kasthurirangan presented points to the government on 31 May 2019 which was accepted by Cabinet on 29 July 2020.


New Education Policy in India

New Education Policy 2020 highlights:-

  • MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) is now renamed as Ministry of Education. Currently, the Ministry of Education is headed by Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.
  • The budget for education is increased from 4.43% to 6%.
  • 10 + 2 is now replaced to 5 + 3 + 3 + 4.
  • Private and government colleges will have the same syllabus and rules and for this National Research Foundation will be established.
  • The compulsion of English is removed and now regional languages will be used to teach students up to Class 5. (3 languages that will be decided by the State/UTs government).
  • Coding from Class 6 for students with the internship.
  • Class 6 - 9: A system of semester exams will be started. This means students of Class 6 - 9 will be having exams only 2 times after every 6 months.
  • Overall Development of Students: Focus will be on the mental development of students and student's report cards will have all those comprehensive details.
  • Aptitude test provision and marks of those will be added.
  • Common Entrance Exams for universities.
  • Except for Legal and Medical colleges, all will be regulated by a single body.
  • Open Distance learning and online education will be promoted.
  • Ethics education will be provided from the start to the students.

Change in School Education System due to the New Education Policy in India:-

Foundational Stage (Nursery, L.K.G., U.K.G., Class 1, Class 2) - Multilevel, play/activity/games-based learning will be started.

Preparatory Stage(Class 2 , 3, 4) - Play discovery and activity-based interactive classroom learning.Basic of Maths, Science, Humanities, etc will be taught.

Middle Stage(Class 6, 7, 8) - Experiential learning in the Sciences, Mathematics, Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities. Skill Development, App Development, etc will be added.

Secondary Stage(Class 9, 10, 11, 12) - Analytical approach and goal development depending upon the strength of the student. It would be students choice of subjects depending upon the interests of the student.


Will Class 10 Board Exams Happen?

Actually, this bill is only passed by the Cabinet. For being an Act, this has to be passed by the parliament also. After all this, it cannot be implemented at the same time. It will take some for the implementation. Teachers would be upgraded, many institutions will be built, etc. So, for the students of the 2020-21 batch, exams will be held as usual.

Huge Change in College Education System:-

After passing Class 12th, a student will have multiple entries or exit the system with a credit transfer.
  • If you complete 1 year - Certificate.
  • If you complete 2 years - Diploma
  • If you complete 3 years or 4 years(depending upon the stream) -Degree
At each stage, your academic credits will be stored. Academic Bank of Credit to be used in the job. This means your hard work every single year matters a lot.

General Need of Change in Education Policy:-

  • The existing education system was of old form.
  • Regional Languages were losing their importance in front of English.
  • Rutta system was a big burden. Students were very frustrated by the theoretical part.
  • Lack of Practical skills after completing studies.
  • Lack of Management and Leadership Skills.

Impact of New Education Policy in India on Education:-

  • Reduce the huge curriculum burden.
  • Skill development from lower grades.
  • Enhance interest-based learning.
  • Each year that you study will add value.
  • Recognizing, Identifying uniqueness in each student.
  • Learning for exam mindset will be changed.
